Unlock Msi Bios

The BIOS controls the operation and configuration of the MSI motherboard and its installed components, and also facilitates the boot process, used to load the operating system. You can password lock the BIOS to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the system, but unlike Windows, which enables users to recover a password using a password reset disk, the MSI motherboard offers no such recourse. If you've forgotten the password to your computer, or someone else set the password without permission, you must reset the BIOS configuration to restore access to your PC.

Instructions

Old Models

1. Turn off the computer, disconnect the power cable and then push the power button to discharge the internal components.

2. Loosen the screws securing the cover panel to the computer and slide the cover toward the back of the case.

3. Lift the cover off the computer. Shine a flashlight into the computer and search the motherboard for a jumper labeled "JBAT1."

4. Use a pair of tweezers to lift the jumper shunt from pins 1 and 2. Place the shunt on pins 2 and 3 and wait five seconds.

5. Return the jumper to its original position to clear the CMOS. Reassemble the PC.

New Models

6. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable, or flip the switch on the power supply to the "Off" position.

7. Press the power button on the front of the case to drain the PC of residual charge.

8. Check the back of the computer to find a black button, positioned next to the USB slots on most models.

9. Hold down the button for five seconds to clear the CMOS and unlock the BIOS.
