A dedicated server is used only by you.
A dedicated server is a server that you rent or purchase that is dedicated to your Web hosting needs. It contrasts with shared hosting where you share a server with tens or maybe hundreds of people. Sharing a server is good, as it keeps the cost of hosting down. However, some applications use too many resources to be authorized to run on shared hosting.
Instructions
Hardware
1. Open all the boxes and take out all of the components.
2. Lay the motherboard on a clean table and open the latch on the processor socket. Dispose of the protective cover and insert the processor.
3. Open the memory slots by pressing the latches on the side of it outward. Insert the memory in the socket and press down until the latches click back in the upward position.
4. Insert the motherboard in the case and screw it in place using the screws provided with the case.
5. Install the hard drive(s) and CD/DVD drive in the case and secure them with screws.
6. Connect the case cables to the motherboard. Connect the power cables to the motherboard and drives. Connect the SATA or SAS cables from the motherboard to the drives.
7. Connect the server to the power outlet, screen, keyboard and mouse. Turn the server on to check if everything is plugged correctly. Close the case.
Basic Operating System
8. Turn on the server and insert your operating system CD/DVD.
9. Press a key when the message "Press any key to book from the DVD" is on the screen, if you are using Windows. Linux will boot to the default menu on its own.
10. Choose your language and keyboard preference using the wizard. Enter the information requested. When prompted to enter your network information, enter the information provided to you by the administrator team of the server room where you will host your server.
Linux Server
11. Choose the "Server" option in Linux and select "Advanced Option" or "Choose the Packet individually," depending on the distribution you are using.
12. Select the servers you want to install. For a Web server, Apache, PHP, MySQL/Postgrep SQL, Perl and Python are the basic ones you want to install.
13. Choose the "Firewall" Linux package to protect your server. Activate SELinux when prompted to.
14. Install your Web services or websites on your server. Install the server in the server room and check if everything works before setting up the DNS server and allow people to access it from the outside.
Windows Server
15. Install IIS or Apache on your Windows server and install Microsoft SQL or MySQL to provide basic Web functionality. Install any other software you may need.
16. Activate Windows Firewall and choose the UAC feature.
17.Install your Web services or websites on your server. Install the server in the server room and check if everything works before setting up the DNS server and allow people to access it from the outside.
