Set A Network Port For Remote Desktop Access

It is not hard to set a network port number with Remote Desktop Connection.

Remote Desktop lets you access another Windows-based computer using your Windows operating system computer and open files on that computer for viewing, editing and other processing. The application uses your computer's Internet connection and connects to the remote computer via a Transmission Control protocol (TCP) port. The default port number is 3389, but you can change the port number to another one within Remote Desktop's configuration if port 3389 is not connecting properly or another problem.

Instructions

1. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "Remote Desktop Connection," if using Windows 7 or Vista.

If using Windows XP, click "Start," "All Programs," "Communications," "Remote Desktop Connection."

2. Enter the Internet Protocol (IP) address or computer name of the remote computer you want to access in the "Computer:" box.

3. Enter ":" after the IP address or computer name. Enter the port number you want to use other than "3389."

Example: "192.190.60.1:3345"

4. Click "Connect" to access the remote computer.
