Remove An Intel Cpu Fan

Remove the Intel CPU fan for replacement.

Intel was one of the first manufacturers of central processing units (CPUs). These computer chips serve as the brain of your computer. Because they perform a majority of the tasks on your computer, these chips tend to become quite hot while operating. A device called a CPU fan can help keep these chips at a safe temperature level. The procedure to remove an Intel CPU fan is similar to the industry standard procedure in other CPUs. The main concern with this process is to remember to ground yourself to prevent static electricity damage to your computer.

Instructions

1. Shut down your computer. Detach any peripherals, such as monitors, printers or mice. Unplug the computer from the wall.

2. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws on the computer case cover. Lift off the cover. Some cases may have an access panel that will simplify this process.

3. Ground yourself by touching a metal object. This step will dissipate any static electricity built up in your body. You also can use an antistatic wrist strap to rid your body of any static buildup.

4. Locate the CPU and fan inside your machine. You can consult your owner's manual to help you. The fan is usually black in color and will have wires leading from it to the computer's wiring harness.

5. Unfasten the CPU fan from the CPU. This procedure varies depending on the fan. Some models will screw into the top of the heatsink on the CPU. In this case, loosen the screws with a screwdriver to remove the fan. In other cases, the fan may be clipped onto the CPU with a lever. Press down on the fan while unclipping the lever to remove this type.

6. Unhook the fan from the computer wiring harness by pulling apart the plastic connectors with your hands. Don't pull on the wires, which can damage them.

7. Remove the fan from the case.
