The Specifications Of Intel Chip Sets

The chipset refers to the set of chips found on a computer's motherboard.

Chipsets refer to the components (or set of chips) that are found on any motherboard. The chipset makes up the circuitry that runs the computer. Motherboards are often sold with built-in chipsets, but the manufacturer for the motherboard may be different than the manufacturer of the chipset used in combination with it. Below are a list of chipsets manufactured by Intel for both desktops and notebooks.

Intel X58 Express Chipset

The Intel X58 Express Chipset for desktops supports the integration of any processor from the Intel Core i7 family. It supports high-speed transfer rates for both internal and external serial ATA drives at three gigabytes per second. The X58 Express is among Intel's highest-performing chipsets for desktops.

Intel H55 Express Chipset

The Intel H55 Express Chipset for desktops supports the integration of either the Intel Core i7 processor, the Intel Core i5 processor or the Intel Core i3 processor. It provides connectivity for a maximum of 12 USB 2.0 ports. The Intel H55 Express supports high-speed transfer rates for internal and external serial ATA drives at three gigabytes per second. It also features Intel Quiet System Technology, which reduces noise from the internal fan.

Intel G35 Express Chipset

The Intel G35 Express Chipset for desktops supports the integration of any Intel Core 2 processor. It supports up to 8 gigabytes of DDR2 RAM and a transfer rate of three gigabytes per second for internal serial ATA drives.

Mobile Intel QM57 Express Chipset

The Mobile Intel QM57 Express Chipset for notebooks supports the integration of any processor from the Intel Core vPro family. It provides a transfer rate of three gigabytes per second for both internal and external serial ATA drives and provides connectivity for a maximum of 14 USB 2.0 ports. The QM57 Express is among Intel's highest-performing chipsets for notebooks.

Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset

The Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset for notebooks is designed as a single chip. It provides a transfer rate of three gigabytes per second for internal and external serial ATA drives and connectivity for a maximum of 12 USB 2.0 ports.

Mobile Intel GS40 Express Chipset

The Mobile Intel GS40 Express Chipset for notebooks supports processors from the Intel Core 2 Duo family. It provides connectivity for a maximum of 12 USB 2.0 ports and internal serial ATA drives.
