Replace Dell Dimension 4550 Motherboards

You may have to upgrade your motherboard to accomodate major system upgrades.

Reasons to replace a computer motherboard vary. You may want to ensure compatibility with an upgraded processor, gain more expansion ports or replace a damaged motherboard.

You won't need many tools to replace a Dell Dimension 4550 motherboard. You don't even need a screwdriver to open the 4550's case. You may need a screwdriver to remove components from the computer or motherboard to gain access for replacement.

1. Turn off the computer and disconnect all wires and devices.

2. Press the power button while the system is powered off to ground the motherboard.

3. Open the computer case by turning the computer on its side, pushing the release buttons on the top and bottom of the case and lifting the cover up.

5. Pull the tab at the front of the motherboard and slide the motherboard and attached metal tray toward the front of the computer case and lift it away.

10. Slide the motherboard back until it seats into place with an audible click.
