A variety of software programs are available to test your CPU's performance.
A Central Processing Unit (CPU) benchmark is a software utility designed to perform CPU-intensive operations and judge the relative performance of a CPU based on the time required to finish the computations. CPU benchmarks are a staple utility for computer users as it allows for the operation performance of a CPU to be ascertained and compared to other CPU packages. Furthermore, CPU benchmarks allow for stress-testing of CPUs to reveal hardware weaknesses, such as thermal failures under load.
Instructions
Performance Test
1. Launch Performance Test from its installed location.
2. Click the "CPU Mark" tab in the upper-left portion of the program window.
3. Click the "Run Benchmark" button in the upper-left portion of the program window. This starts the CPU benchmark. The process may take several minutes to complete, depending on the hardware configuration of the computer. Upon completion, the benchmark scores will be presented in a series of charts.
4. Click the "Compare Results" button in the upper-left portion of the program window to compare your CPU's benchmark with that of several other similar computer systems.
3DMark Vantage
5. Launch 3DMark Vantage and click the "Main" button located in the left-most portion of the main program window.
6. Select the tests labeled "CPU TEST 1 AI Test" and "CPU Test 2 Physics."
7. Click the "Run Benchmark" button in the lower portion of the main program window. This begins the benchmark procedure. This process may take up to 30 minutes depending on the CPU's efficiency.
8. Click the "Submit Results" button in the lower middle portion of the resulting window. This will bring you to the 3D Mark Vantage benchmark database and provide a graphical comparison of your CPU to several similar models.
Cinebench
9. Launch Cinebench from its installed location.
10. Click the "Run" button in the upper-left portion of the screen beside the "CPU" heading. This launches the CPU benchmark.
11. Locate the "Ranking" box in left-most frame of the main program window after the benchmark is complete. Your CPU is highlighted in orange along with your CPU's benchmark score. Several similar CPUs are listed above and below your score based upon their performance relative the tested CPU.
