Flash A Dell Motherboard

The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) of a motherboard enables a user to access information on a hard drive, use a monitor and use a keyboard without an operating system. Without a functioning BIOS, it would be difficult to do anything with a computer. The BIOS also configures the memory, processor and other computer hardware, so it is important that it remain up to date. Dell users have the option of downloading updates for their motherboard that are installed by flashing the BIOS.

Instructions

1. Visit the "Drivers & Downloads" section of the Dell website (see Resources) and click "Choose a Model." Navigate through "Product Family," "Product Line" and "Product Model" and then click "Confirm."

2. Click the downward-pointing arrow of the field next to "Operating System" and select "BIOS." Select an appropriate file from the "BIOS" list, then click "Download." Click "Download" under the heading "Download via your Internet Browser" in the new window if prompted.

3. Run the downloaded .exe file and follow the prompts. Restart the computer after the utility finishes the flash.
